Choeng Mon Beach occupies a sheltered horseshoe bay in the island's northeast, creating the calmest and most protected swimming conditions on Koh Samui. The soft, fine white sand and gentle slope make it the absolute best choice for families with young children.

At low tide, a rocky spit emerges connecting the beach to the small islands of Ko Fan Noi and Ko Fan Yai. You can walk out to explore the rocks, take photos, and spot marine life in the tidal pools. It's one of Choeng Mon's most distinctive features — check tide times to plan your visit. Snorkelling around the Ko Fan Noi rocks at low tide offers the chance to see small tropical fish and marine life without a boat trip. Bring your own gear — rentals are not always available on the beach.

The bay's natural protection means calm, shallow waters persist even when other beaches experience rough conditions. This makes it equally excellent for paddleboarding and kayaking. Despite having several beachfront resorts, the beach maintains a peaceful atmosphere, though sunbed availability from resort restaurants can be limited during high season (December–March). Outside peak season, you'll often have long stretches to yourself.

Public toilet and shower facilities are limited — most amenities are accessed through beachfront restaurants and resorts. Lifeguard presence is not guaranteed and depends on nearby resort staffing. Swimming is largely at your own risk.

During the monsoon season (October–December), the east-facing bay can experience rougher seas with occasional rip currents. While the sheltered bay offers more protection than exposed east coast beaches, exercise caution in rough conditions and observe any warning flags.

Water clarity is outstanding due to the protected bay, and it's popular with couples seeking a calm, private atmosphere away from the busier east coast beaches.
