Maenam Beach
7 km of powdery fine white sand
Maenam Beach is Koh Samui's longest beach at approximately 7 kilometres, featuring some of the island's finest powdery white sand. The palm-lined shoreline creates a postcard-perfect tropical setting, while the beach's length naturally distributes visitors for a peaceful experience.
Maenam faces north toward Koh Phangan, so sunset is not directly over the water as on the west coast. Instead, the beach offers atmospheric sunset sky colours with Koh Phangan silhouetted in the foreground — a different but equally beautiful experience. For direct over-water sunsets, head to the west coast (Lipa Noi, Taling Ngam). On clear days, Koh Phangan feels remarkably close across the water, making Maenam one of the best beaches for island views.
The shallow water gradient and gentle entry make it excellent for families, while the calm conditions are ideal for paddleboarding and kayaking in the eastern section. The western stretch of Maenam (sometimes called Silent Beach) is particularly quiet and family-friendly, with shallow water and fewer visitors than the central area near the pier.
At low tide, the water recedes 5–7 metres, exposing sandy flats. Check tide times for the best swimming conditions — high tide is recommended.
The beach is home to several popular venues including The Flow, WOOBAR, Black Rose, Zenzibar, and Beach House, spread along the stretch.
It's the perfect beach for long, uninterrupted walks, morning runners, and anyone seeking fine sand without the crowds. The bohemian character and interesting mix of visitors add to its appeal.
