Bophut Beach

Bophut Beach stretches for 3.5 kilometers along the north coast, offering a distinctly different character from the developed east coast beaches. This is where you'll find traditional Thai fishing village atmosphere, with fishermen's boats creating scenic, authentic scenes.

Sand quality varies along the beach — softer and more golden toward the western end, becoming coarser with small stones and a reddish tint near Fisherman's Village. Barefoot comfort is best on the western stretch. Water can become cloudy or turbid near the Fisherman's Village end due to suspended sediment, particularly after rain or during choppy conditions. The western end of the beach generally offers better water clarity.

Snorkelling directly off Bophut Beach is not recommended due to poor underwater visibility. For snorkelling, head to the east coast (Coral Cove, Silver Beach) or book a boat trip to Koh Tao or Ang Thong Marine Park.

While amenities are scattered and fewer than busier beaches, small restaurants and bars dot the shoreline. The famous Fisherman's Village area adds cultural interest with its traditional wooden shophouses. The famous Friday Walking Street market transforms Fisherman's Village into a vibrant evening market with street food, local crafts, live music, and a lively atmosphere — one of Koh Samui's must-visit weekly events.

The best time to visit is during the dry season from December to April, when skies are clearest and seas are calmest. The beach is busiest during this period, particularly around Fisherman's Village. There are no lifeguards on Bophut Beach — swimming is at your own risk. During the monsoon season (November–December), be aware of rare but possible rip currents and check local weather conditions before swimming.
