Lamai Beach

Lamai Beach stretches approximately 4–5 km along the southeast coast, making it one of Samui's longest beaches. The golden to light tan sand is excellent quality, and the longer shoreline naturally distributes visitors for a less crowded feel than its busier neighbour Chaweng to the north.

This beach strikes a wonderful balance between development and relaxation. It's popular for beach sports like volleyball, frisbee, and paddleboarding, yet maintains a more laid-back atmosphere than Chaweng.

Snorkelling is possible at the rocky areas toward the northern end of the beach, with moderate coral and fish life. Conditions are intermediate rather than exceptional — dedicated snorkellers should consider Ang Thong or Koh Tao for better visibility and reef quality.

The northern end of the beach near the boat anchorage area can accumulate debris and algae at times, particularly during and after the rainy season. The central and southern stretches are generally cleaner.

Hin Ta and Hin Yai (Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks) at the southern tip of Lamai are one of Samui's most-visited natural landmarks. The rock formations are a short walk from the main beach and have food stalls and viewpoints nearby.

Lamai Walking Street night market runs on Sunday evenings along the main road behind the beach. It's one of the island's best markets for street food, local crafts, and live entertainment — a highlight of any Lamai visit.

During the monsoon season (October–November), wave conditions can be rough with stronger currents. November is typically the heaviest rainfall month. Look for flag warning systems on the beach — red flags indicate dangerous swimming conditions.
